Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to return to the Portugal squad for next month’s Nations League showdown with Italy.
The Azzurri are still in with a slight chance of topping Group 3 and advancing to next summer’s finals, but they need results to go in their favour.
A win over Portugal at San Siro on November 17 will send Roberto Mancini’s side top, but they’d need the Portuguese to fail to beat Poland.Read the Empoli vs Juventus betting preview on Eurotips.co.uk
Two losses for Portugal will see Italy top the group, while the Azzurri would also finish top if Poland get a draw against the Portuguese and Italy win by two goals or more five days before.
The bad news for Mancini and his players though is that Cristiano Ronaldo will return to the Portugal squad in the next international break, according to this morning’s Corriere dello Sport.
The Juventus superstar asked not to be selected in the previous two breaks, but had made himself available for selection this time.
Ronaldo is the leading international scorer in European history, with 85 goals in his 154 caps.
