The Nerazzurri are joint second with Napoli after a 3-0 demolition of Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico last night.

“It’s a fascinating season so far,” Moratti told TeleRadioStereo. “Juve are breaking away, but Napoli and Inter play such good football that it gives them hope.

“We have to all hope it’s as hard-fought as last season. Juventus give off the impression of being the strongest, but there is a bit of hope. There’s entertaining football and reasons to attract more fans than usual to Serie A.

“Juve are accustomed to handling both Serie A and the Champions League, but everyone hopes that they’ll drop a few points and make the Scudetto race more interesting for everyone.

“I do feel that this is probably the strongest Juventus side of all time. They are more consistent than the others, as they’ve won seven in a row and are pushing for an eighth as if it was the first.”

Mauro Icardi is marching towards the top of the scorers’ chart with six goals in his last four Serie A appearances.

“Icardi is truly strong. Last night he proved yet again that in front of the goal, he can do anything. He has class, timing, courage. He gets stronger all the time, has such quality and is improving still.

“I also admire his character, as Icardi is always smiling and this helps the whole team to relax and enjoy the game.

“If Inter were always to play at the same level they did last night against Lazio, then it’d be a huge step forward. What we expected from their style of football is finally arriving, there are talented players and the important thing is that they keep going at this level and not just for the first half of the season.

“I think they’ve learned that it is sustainable.”

Moratti was asked which of the Serie A sides had most disappointed him this season.

“Roma perhaps, as they sold some very important players. I get the feeling Milan are doing more than they expected to in pre-season, so can’t really call that disappointing.”
