Andy van der Meyde insists “I always behaved well at Inter” but the same can’t be said of his time at Everton.
The former winger joined the Nerazzurri in 2003, but struggled to break into the squad and joined the English side two years later.
During his time on Merseyside the Dutchman had well publicised problems with alcohol, drugs and gambling, playing just 20 games in four seasons.
“The biggest fine I ever got was €45,000,” Van der Meyde told Voetbal International.
“I didn't show up for training one day. That [David] Moyes hated me, didn’t he?
“I was fined €45,000, I didn’t call or anything because I just couldn’t face it. I was just in a state of mind where everything was bad and nothing was good.
“I went out drinking and the next day I didn’t feel like training so I stayed at home. The next day I had to go in and see the manager.
“I had to go into his office and he told me: ‘you’re getting fined €45,000’. They just deducted it from my salary.
“I always behaved well at Inter, but not with Everton.”
