Olympique Marseille are out of the Europa League and Coach Rudi Garcia called the defeat to Lazio “cruel and undeserved.”

The 2-1 result at the Stadio Olimpico means last season’s finalists have managed just one point from four games in this group.

“We played very well this evening and were up to the task,” insisted former Roma boss Garcia on Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s incredible how Lazio went into the break 1-0 up, totally undeserved. Lately we just aren’t very fortunate, as we concede chaotic goals.

“We were unable to score when we had the chance. I admit in the first game with Lazio, we simply weren’t up to the task, but tonight the lads gave their all.

“It was a cruel and undeserved defeat. The problem is that we conceded right on the stroke of half-time with Lazio’s first chance. We conceded on a ball that floated down from the sky like a snowflake.

“I compliment (Lazio goalkeeper Thomas) Strakosha for preventing us from scoring more goals. The truth is we weren’t eliminated today, as if we’d played like this in the previous games, we would still be in it.

“Now our objective is to qualify for the Champions League.”
