The Viola soon forced former goalkeeper Marco Sportiello into a double stop on Giovanni Simeone from a counter and Cristiano Biraghi’s free kick.

Back at the other end, Marco Capuano headed inches wide for the hosts, but the Tuscans went even closer when Pjaca’s marker deflected a Biraghi cross on to the post.

Marco Benassi restored Fiorentina’s lead seconds into the restart, glancing a header past Sportiello from Federico Chiesa’s cross.

However, the goalkeeper would make a decisive save on Chiesa as Inter loanee Pinamonti came off the bench to unleash a missile into Alban Lafont’s top corner.
