Milan say they are demanding answers for Andrea Conti’s three-game ban, with emphasis on ‘the referee’s conduct’.

Conti was suspended for berating a referee and acting in a violent manner after Milan Primavera’s 2-0 win against Chievo last week, but it has since been claimed that the right-back’s anger stemmed from the official insulting several players.

“The three-game ban imposed on Andrea Conti requires Milan to issue clarification,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“This is a strict measure, which impacts on the reputation of one of our players, Andrea, whose behaviour on and off the field has always been impeccable.

“He’s an example for teammates and opponents, in line with the values of respect and integrity that have always been part of Milan.

“Without going back to what happened during and after the game against Chievo, with full respect of the judicial authorities, we ask that the facts are ascertained with particular reference to the referee’s conduct.

“We want to prevent this case from being closed by a simple sentence and ensure it is assessed in context, with everything clarified.

“Milan considers it a due act, not only out of respect for those who suffered the consequences of this unfortunate episode but also for young people and the many fans who love this sport, not just for the sporting aspect but also for its social and educational value.”
