SPAL Coach Leonardo Semplici admits “there are regrets, as we threw away two points” in the 2-2 draw with Cagliari.

Andrea Petagna had broken through after two minutes and 28 seconds, with Mirco Antenucci doubling their lead, but the Sardinians scored twice in three minutes.

“There are regrets, as we had a strong start and the right approach, going 2-0 up. Unfortunately, we once again conceded on a set play and it’s something we really must work on, because it’s happening too often,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We went close to winning 3-2 at the end and it’s a positive point, but of course there are regrets. This was our first draw of the season and showed we need to mature, work on our strengths and weaknesses, but always approach games with this determination.

“We need to improve in defence and above all on dead ball situations. Leonardo Pavoletti was meant to be man-marked, but we lost him on that situation and let him run by himself. You can’t afford that in Serie A.

“Conceding goals like that risks compromising an entire match and throwing away two points. We have to keep believing in ourselves and in some ways we did play very well this evening, but there are also areas where we must mature.

“This is our second season in Serie A and we must keep our feet on the ground. After the win away to Roma, we got ahead of ourselves and lost badly at home with Frosinone, so we’ve got to keep our eyes on the objective.”
