Italy CT Roberto Mancini has explained his thinking behind calling up Sandro Tonali, Vincenzo Grifo and Stefano Sensi.

Tonali, Grifo and Sensi were the three new faces in Italy’s squad for upcoming games against Portugal and USA, and Mancini affirmed the trio had earned their inclusions.

“Tonali’s a very interesting young lad with technique, quality and great room for improvement,” he said at a Press conference.

“I don’t know him that well and I don’t know if he plays better as a midfielder or a deep-lying playmaker.

“In the last few games we’ve seen progress in our game but, like I’ve said, we must improve in all areas, particularly in the implementation phase.

“Grifo is a player who had been called up at Under-19 and U21 levels, and [Alberigo] Evani told me he had quality and that it deserved to be seen.

“Sensi has played at various levels over the years and is a quality player who deserves this opportunity.

“I don’t know the reasons for Giampiero Ventura’s resignation. I’m sorry for him on a human level.

“I hoped he could recover himself, maybe have an excellent season and guide Chievo to safety.

“Allegri always wins the Scudetto, it seems normal that the Panchina d’Oro went to him and I also voted for him.

“Juve can win the Champions League, although we’ll have to see how the teams will be in February-March time.

“Cristiano Ronaldo? I think he deserves to win his sixth Ballon d’Or.”

Finally, the former Inter and Manchester City boss was aboutCarlo Ancelotti’s claim that Coaches received too many insults in Italy.

“The atmosphere at stadia is different abroad,” he added.

“Mourinho’s reaction to the Allianz Stadium? I don’t think he did anything special. He may have made his gesture after feeling so much pressure.

“Generally speaking, the situation must improve with regard to insults and stopping matches in the event of insults could be an option.”.
