The Nerazzurri had won seven on the trot in Serie A before their capitulation in Bergamo on Sunday.

“It was a dark day for Inter, as everything went wrong in that game,” Skriniar told reporters while on international duty with Slovakia.

“It may well be a slap in the face that will do us good. We were on a really good run of form, including in the Champions League, where we played well and can reach the Round of 16.

“It’s disappointing to have that unexpected defeat to Atalanta, but I’ll do my best for the team.”

Inter have seven points after four Champions League games, whereas Tottenham Hotspur are on four and they face off at Wembley on November 28.

“Straight after the draw with Barcelona, we told each other that the Tottenham match is going to be the key. It’s not good to keep qualification in the balance until the end, so it’d be nice if we could decide our future in the next game.”
