Federico Chiesa is confident “this wonderful football will eventually lead us to score many goals” after Italy drew 0-0 with Portugal.

It was for over an hour the best Azzurri performance seen in years, with sparkling tempo, quick passing and smart moves, but they couldn’t make it count.

“This wonderful football, above all the one we saw in the first half, will eventually lead us to score many goals. We’re on the right track, I’m sure of it, and we just have to keep working,” the Fiorentina winger told Rai Sport.

“We pressed for 45 minutes and never let Portugal out of their half, so it’s only natural we could lose intensity as the game wore on, especially against a technically-gifted team.

“We are only half happy, because we played really well and it’s just a pity we didn’t win the game, because we deserved to.”
