Kalidou Koulibaly claims Juventus were ‘afraid’ of Napoli last season and still dreams of repaying the Partenopei’s ‘love and confidence’ with a Scudetto.
Koulibaly’s injury-time headed gave Napoli a 1-0 win at Juve towards the end of last season and while the southerners were ultimately just pipped to the post, the Senegal defender has been nominated for the BBC African Footballer of the Year award alongside Medhi Benatia.
“The most important thing is that I always try to improve so I can show everyone that I can be one of the best defenders in the world,” he told the broadcaster.
“For me, when I scored this goal I was really happy. I really want to win something with Napoli, they give me a lot of love and confidence. I want to give something back to them and I hope it will be the Scudetto.
“Last year we believed until the end because Juve were afraid of us and when you feel that a team is afraid of your team, I’m really grateful and I like that sensation.”
