Marco Verratti praised Roberto Mancini after a 1-0 win over the USA. “I’ve never been so relaxed and happy playing for Italy.”
The 4-3-3 formation is working well in the build-up play, even if they had to wait until the 94th minute for Matteo Politano’s winner.
“The Coach puts this strong mentality into everyone, whether they play or not, and everyone is ready to contribute,” the PSG star told Rai Sport.
“Stefano Sensi had an exceptional performance and we were rewarded in stoppages, even if it was frustrating. It’s happened to me before that we dominate possession and don’t score, but that’s football, it’s about luck as well as mentality.
“If we just look at the result, we won’t grow very much. We have to look at the performance, the important thing was to create lots of chances and we are on the right track.
“I’ve never been so relaxed and happy playing for Italy. I think we’re playing the right kind of football with Mancini, we are doing well, it’s tactical, but also enjoyable and we love being out there.”
