“It’s going to be a difficult game for us, as while it’s true Milan have a few injury problems, they still have 11 quality players taking to the field,” said Inzaghi in his Press conference.

“It’s important for our position in the table. I’d love for us to fight it out on level terms with two full squads, but in modern football we all need to live with these issues, especially when involved in European games too.”

Lazio have lost to all the teams above them in the table this season, a trend that has also been evident in recent years.

“I think we were doomed more by individual errors and incidents, so they are details that matter in these situations. If we hadn’t been suited to big games, we would not have beaten Juventus to win the Italian Super Cup in Turin.”

Lucas Leiva is out of the squad due to a muscular issue and won’t be risked, while Riza Durmisi and Felipe Caicedo are in doubt.

“I’ll have to make a decision between Milan Badelj and Danilo Cataldi in midfield. Luis Alberto and Joaquin Correa both have a good chance of playing.

“Milan have great champions, so Gonzalo Higuain is suspended, but they have Patrick Cutrone. Where there isn’t Lucas Biglia, there is Tiemoue Bakayoko.

“We faced them several times last season between Serie A and the Coppa Italia. Milan keep it tight, are organised and we know they will sit back and wait for us to come forward, so we must keep an eye out for their counter-attacks.”

There is one very big concern for Lazio and Milan, as today the Stadio Olimpico is used for a rugby match between Italy and New Zealand.

“It is disappointing, because the pitch has deteriorated in recent years and I feel both Lazio and Roma deserve better,” noted Inzaghi.
