Leonardo Bonucci said “the greatest quality of this Juventus team is being clinical” after they beat Valencia 1-0 to reach the Champions League last 16.

A Mario Mandzukic goal proved enough to dispose of Valencia 1-0, but as Manchester United scraped a last-gasp win over Young Boys, the top spot in the group is still up in the air.

“The important thing was to achieve the primary objective of qualifying, then with the Manchester result we’ll just go to Bern in order to win, as we always do,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

For all their domination, it was very nearly Valencia who took the lead on the stroke of half-time.

“Wojciech Szczesny made a great save, he’s not the first-choice goalkeeper of Juventus for nothing, you have to be ready when called upon even if it’s very rare that you have to make a save.

“The greatest quality of this team is being clinical. In the first half, we didn’t pin them back enough, but we pushed them more in the second half and that allowed us to create more scoring opportunities, along with the winning goal.

“We will enjoy this passage to the next phase, but must also improve the way we read the game and our confidence. With full-backs like Alex Sandro and Joao Cancelo, there are always going to be risks and you need to be on alert.”
