After Thursday’s 5-2 Europa League victory over Dudelange and a massive injury crisis, this match against on form Parma has many potential risks.

“We must respect our opponents and understand the qualities they possess. This is a side that closes up and is frightening when on the counter,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We’ve got to force them to run more when we’ve got the ball, but also be careful on their counter-attacks. There are nearly 60,000 fans coming to San Siro, so we have to make them proud.

“I am worried by the way Parma play, as they can hurt you on set plays as well. I think they’ll start Jonathan Biabiany tomorrow, as when he changes gear, it’s like he’s on a moped trying to chase him down.

“If we play the way we did against Dudelange, then we definitely won’t win. I knew that was a risky strategy, but had to rotate the squad to rest some and give others more playing time.

“The thing that gives me hope is during that game I saw the players change expression when we went 2-1 down. My team realised it could not go into such a humiliating result. We’ve got to continue with that level of humility and determination.

“December is a packed month, so we must try to get as few points as possible, make as few mistakes as possible, get through to the Europa League knockouts and then see.

“It’s true we have a lot of injuries, but the group has become more united through these difficulties. Jose Mauri did well against Dudelange when he came off the bench, while Andrea Bertolacci got a few passes wrong, but the performance wasn’t a complete write-off.

“Riccardo Montolivo is training well and he has a chance of playing too.”
