Referees chief Marcello Nicchi has accepted that an ‘inconceivable error’ saw Roma not awarded a penalty against Inter on Sunday.

Nicolo Zaniolo seemed to be tripped by Danilo D’Ambrosio in the box during Roma’s 2-2 draw with Inter, yet referee Gianluca Rocchi waved play on while there was no VAR review.

“I have nothing to say except we take note that there was an inconceivable error, which the designator will take care of,” Nicchi told reporters.
