Lapadula: ‘Proud to wear Genoa shirt’

Gianluca Lapadula insists he’s “proud to wear” the Genoa shirt, after throwing his jersey after the defeat to Torino yesterday.

The striker came on after 82 minutes of yesterday’s game, but couldn’t turn around a 2-1 defeat.

After the match he threw his shirt toward the Grifone bench, which infuriated some of the fans.

“It wasn’t a polemic gesture,” Lapadula wrote on Instagram.

“I’m publishing this post because I think the situation got out of hand. Before being a professional I’m a man, and some gestures aren’t who I am.

“I would never throw the shirt with contempt, I’m proud to wear it and I want to believe that people’s bad comments were just in the heat of the moment, because anyone who knows me knows I’d never have done that.

“Now our minds and concentration go to the next two games - we want to make up for this defeat!”
