Manuel Locatelli’s late winner sent Sassuolo through to the Last 16 of the Coppa Italia, where they’ll face Napoli.
The Neroverdi faced Catania at the Mapei Stadium this evening, with Roberto De Zerbi naming a much changed side for the fixture.
Alessandro Matri put the Emilians ahead after 14 minutes, but Fran Brodic equalised just before half-time.
De Zerbi sent on Pol Lirola and Federico Di Francesco, and with 10 minutes of normal time remaining his side grabbed the winner.
A long ball forward found Matri, but after bringing it down he couldn’t beat goalkeeper Matteo Pisseri.
The 27-year-old could only push the strike right though, and Locatelli steamed in to stroke the ball into the net.
Sassuolo will now face Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo in the next round.
