Matteo Darmian is “proud to be at Manchester United, but I really do miss Italy now” amid Juventus, Inter, Napoli and Roma rumours.

The 29-year-old versatile full-back has been at Old Trafford since his €18m transfer from Torino in 2015.

He received only three Premier League appearances this season, yet summer proposals were rejected because Manchester United want €20m for him.

“I must say, I really do miss Serie A and Italy now,” Darmian told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I must say, I really do miss Serie A and Italy now,” Darmian told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I know that I am at one of the best clubs in the world and I am proud to be at Manchester United, but I do miss Italy. I love my country.

“Returning to play for Italy is my objective. Roberto Mancini hasn’t called me up yet, but I hope he will in future.”

He discussed his childhood and career, especially as this evening two of his former clubs – Milan and Torino – go head-to-head at San Siro.

“This match represents the movie of my life, as it’s the club where I grew up and the club where I made my definitive step up in quality.

“I was only 10 years old when Milan signed me for their academy after a few trial runs. I left at the age of 19, having learned so much.

“I have no regrets, as I made my choices and the club made theirs. It was such a growth process at Toro, going from Serie B to a run in Europe with fantastic people around us.

“Our victory at the San Mames against Athletic Bilbao was historic, as we were the first and to date only Italian team to win in that inferno of an atmosphere.

“The ultimate symbol of my four years at Toro was beating Juventus in the Derby della Mole.”
