Gattuso: 'Not a missed opportunity'

Gennaro Gattuso insists the 0-0 draw with Torino was “not a missed opportunity. I am sure a year ago, we would’ve lost this game.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma needed two great saves in the first half, but Suso, Patrick Cutrone and Gonzalo Higuain were wasteful after the break.

The Rossoneri could’ve closed to within a point of third-placed Inter, but instead are only one point clear of Lazio.

“I don’t consider it a missed opportunity, as we were well aware that Torino are a difficult team, were unbeaten on their travels,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We struggled a little for 15-20 minutes, but then played the game we needed to. Torino have a lot of quality and it’s a good point. I don’t see it as a bad performance at all. I am sure that a year ago, we would’ve lost this game.

“At this moment, the team is giving its all, we have a lot of players out injured and I think we’re doing well in the circumstances.

“Higuain is a little below par because he still has this back problem, he’s playing through the pain and we need to wait for him to get better. He struggles to train consistently and this is penalising him.

“I have to make do with what I’ve got. We have injuries, there are problems with UEFA, but all that is not my business. I can’t sit here complaining about things I can’t control. I just have to get the current players to deliver at the best of their abilities.

“I’ve been a player and know how it feels when you hear the Coach talking about the transfer market or other players who can come in. I don’t want to disrespect them by standing here discussing transfers, that is for the directors to do.”

Tiemoue Bakayoko is on loan from Chelsea and continues to put in impressive performances after a dismal start.

“Bakayoko was struggling on a tactical level with transitions and lost the ball repeatedly, but he’s working hard and has made a big step forward on that level.

“He’s a quiet guy, he lets his fashion do the talking for him. It takes character to dress the way he does… Let’s just say he dresses like an NBA player.”
