Marek Hamsik’s agent has accused critics of the Napoli midfielder of ‘not understanding football’.
Hamsik came under fire for his performance during Napoli’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday, but Juraj Venglos maintained his client was not to blame for the Partenopei exiting the competition.
“Marek’s fine, even though I didn’t speak to him straight after the match,” he told Radio CRC.
“I’ve read the newspapers. There’s a bit of bitterness on my part after reading he was the worst player against Liverpool.
“For me, he played well. Liverpool’s pressure wasn’t taken into account. It doesn’t seem right that he’s been criticised so much, given how good Liverpool were.
“People forget he’s changed his role and that he’s playing in a completely different way from what he was used to.
“Maybe I can say that those who criticised him don’t understand football. Can Napoli win silverware this season? In my opinion, yes.
“They can win the Coppa Italia and Europa League, while Serie A has a long way to go and there are still lots of matches left.
“I don’t think Juventus will always win. They have tough games against Napoli, Roma, Inter and Milan in the second half of the season, so I don’t think the title race is over.”
