Beppe Marotta confirms Juventus “asked after” Mauro Icardi over the summer, but “never sat down to negotiate with Inter or discuss costs.”

Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara claimed on television last night that Icardi had been sold to Juve, but that the player turned down the transfer.

Nerazzurri director Piero Ausilio rejected the suggestions as “fairy-tale” and now the man who was until recently in charge of Juventus transfers reiterates the scenario.

“Asking after players is part and parcel of the job that every sporting director has to do, either directly or through a third person,” Marotta told reporters at today’s awards ceremony.

“Certainly, also with in mind the idea of moving on Gonzalo Higuain, we might’ve asked after Icardi. However, Piero Ausilio can confirm that we never sat down to negotiate with Inter or discuss costs.

“Icardi remains a player at the top level, but there was never anything concrete in an eventual transfer from Inter to Juventus.”
