Roma approached Scudetto-winning Coach Fabio Capello for a new role as technical director, but he turned it down, according to reports.

Radio Centro Suono Sport claim today that Capello was given the proposal around a month ago, suggesting he would be an aid to Coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

However, Capello maintains he has retired after his experience at Jiangsu Suning and does not have interest in becoming a technical director.

Capello won the Scudetto at Roma in 2001, so his presence at the club would also be inevitably used as ‘insurance’ in case Di Francesco was fired.

The 72-year-old former England manager is currently working as a pundit on Sky Sport Italia.
