Luciano Spalletti concedes Inter did not learn the lessons of previous setbacks against Chievo after today’s 1-1 draw.

Sergio Pellissier struck with a lob in stoppages to cancel out the Ivan Perisic opener.

“It was not dissimilar to our other recent games against Chievo,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“They know how to use this very direct style of football with the long ball and we allowed ourselves to be surprised. Clearly, we have to work better on these situations, as we had so many chances to kill off the game and didn’t take them.

“Right at the end, this hole in the defence opened up and Pellissier took full advantage.”

Yet again, the Nerazzurri seemed to relax into their lead and didn’t finish their opponents off.

“We still can’t manage to be determined enough, but we’ve got quality and when we have the advantage in a match, we need to use it to bring home the result.

“It’s not a physical issue of slowing down towards the end, it’s purely a psychological one, knowing how to evaluate the various situations. Every now and then we make decisions that are counter to what we ought to.”

Radja Nainggolan returned to the starting XI after muscular problems, but Inter did fall away after he was substituted.

“We were tactically organised in the first half, as Chievo play well down the middle, but we managed to hurt them. In those situations, you can go on the counter and do real damage or you can get caught out yourself, which is what happened with the equaliser.”
