Marek Hamsik insists Napoli can still win the Scudetto this season and ‘will always remember’ the reception they received after beating Juventus.
Napoli lost the Serie A title to Juve in the final two rounds of last season and dropped into the Europa League after they crashed out of the Champions League, but Hamsik made it clear his side were ready to bounce back in 2019.
“We started the year top of the League by playing some very good football,” the midfielder told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“However, we couldn’t stay ahead of Juventus who won the League. Still, I’ll always remember the welcome after we came back victorious from Turin against Juventus.
“Almost 25,000 fans were waiting for us at Capodichino airport. Everything’s still possible in the League.
“It’s a shame that we’re out of the Champions League, despite having played great games against some great opponents.
“We’ll resume in the Europa League in spring and we want to go as far as possible. I’m part of the history of this club and I’m proud of it.
“The fans are unique and I want to give them the satisfaction they deserve. We’re coached by Ancelotti, who has won a lot in his career.
“We’ve changed the way we play under him, but we’re doing well and we’re competitive on several fronts. 2019 will be important and challenging.”
