Sky Sport Italia claimed on Friday night that Chelsea had dived in with a proposal worth €50m, matching the price-tag set by the Sardinians.

According to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, Inter are the first to respond with patrons Suning ready to invest a similar sum via €35m cash plus players.

They could get the upper hand by including ownership of Eder, the striker currently at Inter’s sister club Jiangsu Suning, and the loan of 19-year-old centre-back Alessandro Bastoni, who is at the moment playing for Parma.

However, Italy international Barella turns 22 next month and is already a regular for Italy at senior level under Coach Roberto Mancini, so is attracting interest from even more clubs.

The CdS claims Napoli aren’t giving up either, while Manchester United could join the bidding war.
