Marco Giampaolo felt a 2-0 Sampdoria defeat was not a fair reflection of the Coppa Italia clash with Milan. “Pepe Reina was Man of the Match.”

The Round of 16 tie went to extra time, decided by a Patrick Cutrone brace.

“We are accustomed to judging a performance by the result, but in this case it does not do justice to how my team played,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We are accustomed to judging a performance by the result, but in this case it does not do justice to how my team played,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“I liked Samp for long periods today, but we lost and must tip our hats to Milan. I continue to believe you have a better chance of winning games if you play positive and focus on quality football, so I don’t regret the performance.

“If you win these matches, you gain a different mentality and credibility. I am proud of my team and it’s frankly difficult to comment on this result.

“Milan’s goalkeeper Reina was Man of the Match and that says it all, really. I thought Milan were running out of steam towards the end, but so were we. I think if we’d won, everyone would’ve praised the Samp performance.”
