Former Salernitana, Bari and South Africa forward Phil Masinga has tragically died at the age of 49.

He had been in hospital since December as his cancer took hold and was struggling financially in recent years.

Masinga was a legend in his home country, scoring 18 goals in 58 caps for South Africa.

He spent four years in Italy playing for Salernitana in 1997, then going on to Bari until the summer of 2001.

His other clubs were Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundows, Leeds United, St Gallen and Al-Wahda.
