Coach Gennaro Gattuso had until now said he would continue to call on Higuain as long as he was focused on the game and training well.

It seems as if that is no longer the case, as Pipita was left at home when the team travelled towards Genoa.

Higuain terminates his Milan career after eight goals and three assists in 22 competitive appearances.

The Argentine also received four yellow cards and one red.

He had arrived on loan for one year at a cost of €18m, with option to buy at the end of the season for another €36m, but is returned to Juventus, who will pass him on to Chelsea on another loan deal.

Suso returns after he missed the midweek Supercoppa defeat to Juventus through suspension, but Franck Kessie, Alessio Romagnoli and Davide Calabria are all banned.

Mattia Caldara, Jack Bonaventura and Lucas Biglia remain long-term injury absentees.
