Premier Sports takes Serie A rights

Digital TV broadcaster Premier Sports has won the rights to show Serie A football in the UK and Ireland for the next two years.

It comes after Eleven Sports announced on Wednesday morning that it would be ceding the rights, amidst reports the streaming-only service was in financial difficulties.

A Press release on Premier Sports’ officiai website confirms it will ‘air a minimum of six games per round until the end of the 2020-21 season.’

Furthermore the deal begins this weekend, although customers can continue watching Serie A on Eleven Sports until February 25.

Premier Sports has also confirmed that it will show matches on its Sky and Virgin channels, as well as its web-based Premier Player, while ‘a number of games’ will be aired on its free-to-air sister channel FreeSports.

To ease the transition, Eleven Sports customers can subscribe to Premier Sports at a reduced rate of £5.99 a month until August, with their first month free.

Premier Sports launched in 2009 and already has rights to the Scottish Cup, PRO14 rugby and NHL.
