Beppe Iachini wants Empoli to “cut down on the errors” after a 2-2 draw with Chievo, but admits the Miha Mevlja transfer from Zenit might not go through.

The Tuscans fought back from 2-0 down with a Ciccio Caputo goal either side of the half-time break.

“We played well, but made some naïve errors and compromised the result once again,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“At times we get the final ball wrong, or choose the wrong shot, then at the first mistake in defence we concede a goal. The team never gave up, we were always in the game, and it’s a pity because we had the chance to win 3-2.

“There are lads here in their debut Serie A campaigns, others who just arrived in the transfer window and need time to settle in. All we can do is keep working, as we create the chances, we’ve just got to cut down on the errors.”

Empoli sold star man Miha Zajc to Fenerbahce on transfer deadline day and had brought in centre-back Mevlja from Zenit St Petersburg, but a problem emerged.

“We had to sacrifice Zajc in order to fund other moves. Among them was Mevlja, but the electronic transfer wasn’t registered in time. I don’t know if we’ll be able to overturn that decision, but the club is working on it.

“FIFA say he’s registered, the fax arrived two minutes late. We did everything we had to do.”
