Lecce midfielder Manuel Scavone says he is grateful to still be ‘in one piece’ after avoiding a serious head injury during a Serie B match last week.

Scavano was accidentally knocked unconscious just five seconds into last Friday’s game between Lecce and Ascoli before taking a nasty fall, prompting it to be postponed for a later date.

However, tests showed the 31-year-old did not sustain any lasting damage and he was released from hospital on Sunday.

“Here I am, luckily in one piece after the big scare I had,” he wrote on Instagram.

“I’m at home with my family… I want to thank all the people who have contacted me with messages and phone calls.

“There have been so many, I really didn’t expect it! I apologise if I’m not able to answer everyone…”
