Simone Inzaghi admits Lazio “felt the fatigue of the Coppa Italia” quarter-final, as they scraped a 1-0 win away to Frosinone.
The Biancocelesti were visibly exhausted towards the end of the Serie A match, as they were pushed to extra time and penalties by Inter on Thursday evening.
“Lazio weren’t as sharp as usual, but it was to be expected we’d feel the fatigue of the Coppa Italia, especially in the second half,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“It was an important result for our standing in the table and we made a few too many mistakes, but fought hard for the victory.”
Joaquin Correa was expected to start, but had a muscular issue in training, so Luis Alberto and goalscorer Felipe Caicedo played.
“Ciro Immobile also had a muscular twinge, but we had used up all the substitutions and basically were down to 10 men for the last 20 minutes.
“We are fortunate enough to be involved in three tournaments and for that we need everyone involved. Valon Berisha picked up an injury straight away when he arrived, so his progress has been held back, but he has a lot of quality and I think will make an impact this season.”
It is now an incredibly tight race for the Champions League spots, especially as Inter are also faltering in third.
“They are all strong teams. Atalanta and Milan have the advantage of not playing in Europe, so will have more time to train. We’ve got to take it one game at a time.”
