A statement on Palermo’s official website read: “U.S. Città di Palermo can confirm that yesterday Mr Clive Richardson and Mr John Michael Treacy formally resigned from their positions as chairman of the board and board member, respectively.
“A shareholders' meeting will be held in the next few days to appoint a new board of directors.
“U.S. Città di Palermo CEO Emanuele Facile specifies that Mr Richardson was always informed of the club's financial situation, which was made clear by significant documentation dating back to October. Therefore, the information contained in the resignation letter Mr Richardson sent to the media yesterday is entirely unfounded.
“With regard to running the club, the CEO has sought to reduce the friction of a personal and professional nature which arose between Mr Richardson and U.S. Città di Palermo's sports management.
“The CEO would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate his confidence in technical director Rino Foschi and highlight the professionalism shown by the players and head coach during the match against Foggia.
“The club has instructed its lawyers to assess the claims made to the media by Mr Richardson.”
