New signing Romulo “wanted to come to Lazio at all costs” and believes they play “the best football in Italy” right now.
The 31-year-old midfielder has been in Italy since 2011, playing for Fiorentina, Verona, Juventus, Genoa and now Lazio.
“I had lost a big opportunity for my career at Juve because of injuries, as I had several operations. I also lost out on international duty during my best period,” explained the Brazilian in a Press conference.
“I wanted to have my say at a big club to prove what I can do. I’m very happy to be here and will give all of myself to achieve our objectives. When the call came, I was really excited, because Lazio are a big club and I wanted to come here at all costs.
“I already knew some of the lads and they gave me a very warm welcome, making me feel at home. I am ready to give my best right away.”
Lazio host Empoli this evening at 19.30 GMT and sit just one point off Milan in the fourth and final Champions League berth.
“There are so many teams crammed together and that is also why I was called in, to give the Coach another option to choose from. I came here to play on the wing, but the Coach knows he can count on me in midfield too.
“Lazio play attractive and aggressive football with a high press. Talking to my agent, we agreed Lazio played the best football in Italy, as there is a mix of experience and youth. This team will aim high and in my view are second only to Juventus.
“In fact, Lazio dominated the game with Juve and unfortunately lost at the end, they were very unlucky after a great performance.”
Like every new signing, Romulo was asked about the Derby della Capitale.
“I’ve known since I first arrived in Italy that the Rome Derby was the most passionate. I can’t wait to play in it and win.”
