The Giallorossi are only one point off fourth-placed Milan going into the weekend, but Lazio have already beaten Empoli 1-0 last night to climb into that Champions League berth.

It’s a very tight race, as Atalanta share the same number of points as Roma, with Fiorentina and Sampdoria hovering just behind.

Eusebio Di Francesco saved his job with a 1-1 draw against Milan, just days after an historic 7-1 Coppa Italia thrashing by Fiorentina, and is distracted by the upcoming Champions League Round of 16 tie with Porto.

Robin Olsen, Kostas Manolas, Cengiz Under and Diego Perotti are injured, with Lorenzo Pellegrini sitting out a one-match ban.

At least Bryan Cristante and Steven Nzonzi return from suspension, while Antonio Mirante and Ivan Marcano step in for the defence.

It is 35-year-old goalkeeper Mirante’s third game of the season after a 1-0 defeat to Udinese on November 24 and 2-1 loss at Viktoria Plzen on December 12.

Patrik Schick is again used as support for Edin Dzeko, along with Stephan El Shaarawy in a 4-3-3 formation, moving Nicolò Zaniolo to a deeper role.

Chievo are still rock bottom, due in part to a three-point penalty for financial irregularities, but they have improved their form in recent weeks.

Sergio Pellissier, Marco Andreolli and Nenad Tomovic are out injured, but Giaccherini takes the trequartista role behind strikers Stepinski and Filip Djordjevic.

Assane Diousse starts in midfield, with Lucas Piazon and Ezequiel Schelotto on the bench.

Chievo have only beaten Roma three times in 35 previous meetings, but these sides drew here 0-0 last season and at the Olimpico earlier this term the Flying Donkeys fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.
