Debate is raging among Roma fans as to whether Aleksandar Kolarov’s bow towards them was a gesture of peace or sarcasm.
The full-back has been the subject of insults and criticism in recent weeks, with some ultras even placing offensive graffiti outside his house.
When Kolarov scored in last night’s 3-0 victory over Chievo, he turned towards the away end where the ultras had been insulting him all evening and bowed.
Coach Eusebio Di Francesco called it “a wonderful gesture of apology” to the fans for his outburst last week, but the supporters aren’t so sure.
Many considered it to be a sarcastic bow to ‘thank’ them for their abuse.
“It takes some serious imagination to interpret Kolarov’s bow as a gesture of apology. It seemed far more like he was making fun of the fans,” pundit Antonio Felici told Centro Suono Sport.
