Bonucci, Barzagli and Chiellini are all sidelined for Juve, just one week before their Champions League last-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid, but Buffon backed Daniele Rugani and Martin Caceres to deliver in the trio’s absence.

“Bonucci, Chiellini and Barzagli are indispensable players, beyond what they do on the field,” the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper told Sky Sport Italia.

“There are many other small skills they have, which are crucial. Of course Juve will do everything to get them back because they’re invaluable.

“However, in case they don’t there will also be opportunities for those who replace them and for them to earn the club’s trust.

“Juve don’t have a supporting cast. All their players are of the highest level.”

Buffon was then asked about Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, who left Juve two years before the 41-year-old and whom he will face in the Champions League on Tuesday.

"Paul’s a golden boy, I always enjoy meeting him because he’s an incredible champion,” he added.

“Of course, I hope he can bring me the respect he owes me and that he’s very calm.”
