Roma’s return to the Champions League has been marred somewhat by the ongoing feud between their supporters and Kolarov, but De Rossi called for the Giallorossi to pull together ahead of Tuesday’s last-16 first leg against Porto.

“If they were able to repair this small fracture then I’d be the happiest man in the world,” the midfielder said at a Press conference.

“That’s because I’m in the middle between the Roma fans, who I love and have always protected me, and Kolarov, who’s like a brother to me.

“The fans must trust me on this. I’m not saying he’s been a Roma fan since birth, but he’s one of the best professionals I know.

“He’s not one of those who kisses his shirt and then backs out at the first sign of difficulty. The fans must be respected, but if this fracture was repaired then I’d be more than happy.

“Last year’s semi-final is an added value and lets us prepare for the game better. Porto are used to playing in these types of matches, but for us it was a good experience.

“We also have the luxury of being able to say we were unlucky and could’ve done better, but that was last season and we have to think about tomorrow’s game.

“How have I seen Roma? We went on a bad run of results that didn’t reflect our performances.

“I think we had some very good games, like against Real Madrid and Inter, but you could see that when we conceded a goal, we couldn’t pick ourselves back up.

“However our performances have been quite positive, Fiorentina aside. My teammates have made me feel important like never before.

“Do I want to continue? Yes, it only depends on how I’ll be going forward. Di Francesco? He has a style of play in mind and won’t change it.

“He knows what happens on the field and recognises our problems. He’s never lost his composure, even in a city where it’s never easy to keep it.”
