Former Porto and Juventus midfielder Rui Barros has confessed that Sergio Conceicao’s side ‘didn’t want’ Roma in the Champions League last 16.
Rui Barros [pictured, left] won a Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup with Juve between 1988 and 1990 and is currently in charge of Porto’s B team.
“At Porto we said something: that we didn’t want to face an Italian team,” the pint-sized Portuguese told Il Messaggero.
“Porto can win and the two teams are quite similar but if you face a Serie A team, you know you can also lose and lose well.
“Those who know football know that it’s never nice against them and Roma are a team who have great players, but above all they showed they could eliminate anyone last season.”
The tie gets under way at the Olimpico on Tuesday evening.
