Hamsik is on his way to Dalian after 12 years at Napoli, and the midfielder made it clear if he ever left the Partenopei earlier in his career, it would have been for Milan as opposed to Juve.

“I’m excited, we’ll see how it goes,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s a new adventure in a country I don’t know much about. I know nothing about what awaits me.

“I can’t wait to start. When I heard about Dalian’s interest, I immediately got in touch with Carrasco to get some more information.

“Now I’ll join up with them at their preseason retreat in Shanghai so I can get to know my new teammates.

“For me it was easier to write my farewell speech. I’m a person of few words. I went two days without sleep to choose the words to write, words which came from the heart.

“I can only thank the fans. They made me feel part of a family that I’ll never forget. Did I cry when I wrote my message? No, but I wrote what I felt. I hope to cry when I return to Naples to have one final lap of honour and say goodbye.

“My most beautiful moment? I can’t say which one exactly, but maybe the first Coppa, which arrived after 25 years. I’ll never forget our party and everything that went down that evening.

“They’re all beautiful things, the only thing that’s missing is the Scudetto. That’s my only regret.

“Close to Juve in Sarri’s first year? I wouldn’t say so. I could never do something like that. I was closer to Milan, but I never tried to change team because I didn’t want to. I felt tied to this shirt.”

Finally, the Slovak was asked about Lorenzo Insigne succeeding him as captain at the San Paolo.

“He’s the right choice,” he concluded.

“He’s someone who cares about this shirt. I hope he breaks my appearance record.”
