Zaniolo: 'Want to be at Roma forever'

Nicolò Zaniolo made Champions League history and is already said to be worth €50m, but insists “my objective is to stay at Roma forever.”

The 19-year-old became the youngest ever Italian to score a brace in a Champions League match this week, finding the net twice in the 2-1 victory over FC Porto.

Since his move to Roma over the summer as part of the deal taking Radja Nainggolan to Inter, his profile has sky-rocketed.

“I’d love to be a symbol of this club and my objective is to stay at Roma forever,” Zaniolo told TV show Le Iene.

Would he like to follow in the footsteps of Francesco Totti?

“I don’t feel that I am anything like Totti, but it would be a dream to spend my entire career at Roma. I’ll certainly try.”

He gave the interview in the car, as his mother Francesca drives the young star to training every day, because he doesn’t have a driver’s licence yet.

It also gave Zaniolo an opportunity to act like any other teenager and be embarrassed by his mother’s selfie habit.

“I am keeping an eye on her and trying to cut down on the selfies…”

However, the pair made clear that reports of a row between them over the Instagram pictures was completely blown out of proportion.

When she joked that she could go on the Italian version of Big Brother because she wouldn’t need any talent to take part, she laughed and added: “I don’t know what to say.”

At this point, Nicolò replied: “You just have to say no!”
