Machin: Lazio have 'nothing to lose'

Sevilla boss Pablo Machin warns Lazio will ‘have nothing to lose’ on Wednesday and hopes Ciro Immobile ‘doesn’t celebrate his birthday against us’.

Sevilla take a 1-0 lead and an away goal into the second leg of their Europa League last-32 tie with Lazio, but Machin’s side – who have won the trophy a record five times – could be facing Immobile on his 29th birthday.

“We have to lift our heads,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“We’ve had worse times. They’re part of football, especially when you’re a team like us with big objectives.

“It’s all in our hands. We have to overturn the situation and tomorrow we’ll be back playing in a historic competition.

“We must believe in ourselves and plan the match from the first moment. Tomorrow is a hugely-important match for us. We have to get back to winning.

“We’ve had chances, but what’s missing is consistency. We have to do a bit more than we did before to turn them into goals.

“The team are talented, the players have always shown it, so we must keep doing what we’re doing.

“Luis Alberto is an important player for them, but my team worry me more, even if Lazio are a great team. They have nothing to lose.

“Immobile’s a player who knows this stadium. We’ll keep an eye on him, even if I don’t really know his physical level. I hope he doesn’t celebrate his birthday against us.”

Machin then discussed the brawl that broke out before the first leg in Rome and Napoli loanee Marko Rog, who has yet to debut for Sevilla.

“99.9 percent of fans who like football don’t do these things,” he added.

“What happened wasn’t football or Sevilla-Lazio. Rog? Everyone needs a period of adaptation and he hasn’t been here for long.

“For Marko Rog to play, someone has to make way. Every fan will have their own ideas, as does every journalist… but the Coach has his with objective data.

“Every day I see him more integrated and with more desire. I’m convinced that he’s going to be a player that’s very good for us.”
