Inter are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic this summer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, distance between Rakitic and Inter is ‘now minimal’ after ‘the foundations were laid’ for an agreement in the region of €40m.
The newspaper explains the Nerazzurri are at work to bring in not only ‘top players’ but also ‘leaders’, and the Croat would tick those boxes.
Inter general manager Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio are said to have met Barca ‘in secret’ and offered €35m.
La Gazzetta writes the Blaugrana are holding out for €45m, but a compromise should be enough to take the 30-year-old to San Siro.
The Beneamata would also be ‘ready’ to offer him a contract of ‘at least three years’, amidst the Catalan club’s reported unwillingness to tie him down beyond 2021.
