Federico Bernardeschi concedes Juventus let in “two identical goals” against Atletico Madrid, “but we have 90 minutes to prove we belong in this Champions League.”

Atleti scored both goals in the 2-0 Champions League victory with dead ball situations that were not cleared effectively.

“We knew the difficulties we’d face in this stadium against a strong side like Atletico. Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way we hoped, but these ties are played over 180 minutes, so we’ll try to turn it around in the second leg,” substitute Bernardeschi told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are a strong team, we are aware of that. We’ve got to play better in the second leg, but above all not make the mistakes we did tonight.

“It’s a good result for Atletico, but it can certainly be overturned. We’ve got it all to play for and will do it in front of our own fans.”

Considering the way the goals were scored, had Juventus practiced these situations in training?

“We prepared for their set plays during the week in training, but we know it’s different in a match situation and it’s all about the details.

“Unfortunately, we conceded two pretty much identical goals, they pounced on the ricochet in the box. When you concede a goal, there has always been a mistake somewhere. We conceded two very similar goals, but we had prepared well and the details went against us this evening.

“Now we have 90 minutes left to prove we deserve to remain in this Champions League. There is disappointment, but we are also aware it’s not over and we must focus our energy on what we can do next, not what has already happened.”
