Fabio Capello hit out at Leonardo Bonucci for playacting during Juventus’ 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid. “He was stroked, we’re too used to it in Italy.”

Bonucci attracted scorn after TV cameras showed the Juve defender stayed down in Atleti’s box and watched them score, before claiming he had been fouled as he covered his face once the ball went in.

“Bonucci was stroked and immediately threw himself to the ground,” Capello told Sky Sport Italia.

“Bonucci was stroked and immediately threw himself to the ground,” Capello told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’re too used to referees whistling for a foul if you’re touched in Italy. Clearly there was nothing in it and the referee immediately told him to get up.”

The former Milan captain, meanwhile, tweeted after the game: “A different Juve will be needed in the second leg.

“Ninety minutes where each of us will have to pull out more than our maximum. On and off the field.

“Together we’ll go for it. #FinoAllaFine.”
