“It was a difficult game, but we were able to resolve it and went through. That’s important,” the 21-year-old told Fox Sports after the game.

“I feel very good, I’ve been training as well as I possibly can and now I’m getting minutes under my belt. I’m very happy.

“Mauro Icardi’s given me a big hand. He’s also helped me with the little details and that’s very important to me.

“For us he’s very important, but only he can resolve what’s going on with him. We must remain on the fringes.

“Obviously we miss him on the field because he’s a very important player. He’s our goalscorer and we hope things can be resolved. We’re waiting for him.

“Argentina? I hope to be called up for their next two games [friendlies in March], but for now I havent talked to anyone.

“Playing as a substitute is always very difficult, but even if you play for just a few minutes you need to win the confidence of your Coach: now I’m getting many minutes and playing at I level I want to be at.

“Sunday [against Sampdoria] was a tough match, but I’m happy with what I did, both for my performance and my teammates.”
