Belotti has scored just nine goals this season and gone six without one in Serie A, yet the Italy hitman has captained Toro to three wins and no defeats since the turn of the year, putting them right in the mix for Europa League qualification.

“With 11 points in six games, our start to the second round has allowed us to build a great opportunity for ourselves,” Cairo told Radio24.

“Now we can’t waste it. We’ll require the same attitude on the pitch against Inter, Napoli and Atalanta.

“On paper our next three games seem easy, but they’re ones that often turn into obstacles. If we don’t want to throw away what we’ve done until now, we must play with the same determination like we have been.

“Belotti? He isn’t scoring goals, but he’s dragging us through games. He’s a real captain. I want to reassure him: when he gets back to scoring goals, he’ll score a lot.

“Now he’s going through an unlucky spell, but he mustn’t worry about it. Italy? Mancini is very attentive. Belotti will play when he’s recalled.”

The Granata chief then commented on Aurelio De Laurentiis’ recent criticism of Juve’s financial model.

“I don’t like debt either,” he added.

“However, companies without debts are sometimes valued less by analysts. We must remember: Juventus’ €175m debt isn’t a huge amount compared to their €500-600m turnover.

“What matters is investing these resources well.”
