Fiorentina legend Gabriel Batistuta has revealed why he rejected Real Madrid and Milan during his career. “I would’ve got bored…”

Batistuta is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalscorers in history but has just one Scudetto and Coppa Italia to his name, and the Argentine admitted he preferred the ‘quiet life’ in Florence to the hustle and bustle of Madrid and Milan.

“When I was at Fiorentina clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United and Milan wanted me, but ultimately I preferred the quiet life in Florence,” said the 50-year-old from the America Business Forum.

“I won almost nothing in my career, but I consider myself a winner. I am one because I made sure Fiorentina competed with bigger teams.

“If I went to Real Madrid I’d have won things and scored more than 200 goals, but I would’ve got bored. The same goes for Milan.

“I never liked being the leader of a team because when you’re the leader, you’re not only the most responsible for wins but also defeats, and players are always treated as products.”
