Stefano Pioli hit back at “unfair and unbalanced” controversy over refereeing decisions in Fiorentina 3-3 Inter. “There were errors against us too.”

The Viola are preparing for tomorrow evening’s Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta, but the complaints rage on from Sunday’s Serie A clash.

“I think people have talked about this in an unfair and unbalanced fashion, because the VAR decisions were criticised only one way,” said the Viola Coach in his Press conference.

“Without VAR, that game would’ve ended 2-2. If the referee’s doubts were not resolved by the footage, then it wasn’t enough to make him change his initial impression.

“I don’t want to go back to earlier this season, but Inter took two extra points off us with a penalty for the ball touching fingertips. We’ve had decisions go against us too. We had six penalties awarded against us for handball and very few of them were certain fouls, for example Edimilson Fernandes against Juventus.

“I am not worried about the referee, as that would show a fundamental lack of trust in our officials and discredit people who have done so much.

“We must also not put the use of VAR into doubt. Without that technology, there would’ve been many, many more mistakes. I hope that it can help everyone to feel calmer as time goes on, as the referee in the end is the one who makes the difference.”

Some Inter supporters hit rock bottom when insulting Davide Astori’s memory during their post-match social media comments.

“Words are not sufficient to judge this situation,” added Pioli. “This is why I don’t use social media.”
